CPA Volunteers Needed to Assist Red Cross

Each year, disaster affects the lives of thousands. In addition to the tragedies of loss, shattered routines and disruption, victims often face a myriad of financial questions. For many, answers are not easily available while coping with the emotional turmoil which arises after a disaster.

The Dallas CPA Society is joining the American Red Cross in developing a network of CPA volunteers who can provide solutions to those financial issues which victims in the Dallas area commonly encounter after a disaster.

How can you help? Dallas CPA Society volunteers are needed to provide basic advice to disaster victims on cash flow planning, prioritizing expenses, managing debt, and similar areas. A publication developed by the AICPA and the National Endowment for Financial Education, “Disaster Recovery: A Guide to Financial Issues”, provides an overview of the immediate issues faced by those affected by disaster. View the publication, Click Here.

Volunteers will typically meet with disaster victims on a specified day of the month at the offices of the American Red Cross, with the flexibility of choosing months of availability. In cases of a larger disaster, volunteers may be asked to meet on an ad hoc basis. Volunteers will receive training on the scope of volunteer services. We expect that volunteer services will begin in the later half of March.

Please volunteer for a 1 to 3 year commitment. Since the program is still under development, volunteers are immediately needed for committee assignments. Please Click Here to sign up for the program and indicate your volunteer preferences.

If you have questions, please contact Rick Call at 214-828-9875 or the Dallas CPA Society at 972/960-8311.
