Autumn in Dallas Brings Opportunities for DCPAS Members
by Mitch Perry, CPA

Mitch Perry, CPAAs we head into fall, school is back in full force, the weather begins to cool, and it’s a busy time for the Dallas CPA Society.

CFO of the Year Awards
On October 22nd, the Dallas CPA Society joined with the Dallas Business Journal, the Association for Corporate Growth, and Financial Executives International to present the second annual CFO of the Year Awards. Over 850 people attended this year’s awards luncheon held at the Hotel Intercontinental in Dallas. DCPAS, along with the other host organizations and sponsors, presented awards in nine categories ranging from the large public company category to the not-for-profit charitable organization category. In just two short years, the CFO of the Year Award has become one of the area’s premier business awards, and DCPAS is proud to join FEI, ACG and the Dallas Business Journal in bringing this important program to the Dallas business community.

Member Appreciation CPE Series Continues in November
On November 17th, DCPAS will present another installment in the Member Appreciation CPE Series. There is no charge for members to attend, but you must register in advance. The session provides four credit hours of CPE, and covers the following timely and important topics:

1. The Brave New World of Compilation & Review Standards
2. Practice Continuation Agreements: A Practice Survival Kit
3. The 2010 Roth IRA Opportunity: What Does it Mean to You and Your Tax Practice?

Registration for this event opened in October, and due to the overwhelming response, we’ve added space for an additional 100 participants. Availability is on a first come, first serve basis. For more information, or to register, use this link.

Networking in November
Even if you can’t attend the CPE sessions on the afternoon of November 17th, try and stop by the Hilton Lincoln Centre Hotel at 5:00 that evening for our free networking event. This year’s networking events have been well attended, with CPA’s from a wide cross-section of our membership represented.

Our Future Leaders Meet
November 17th is also the kick-off date for this year’s Leadership Development Academy. Members of the Academy’s inaugural class will attend a luncheon that promises to set the tone for a successful year. For more information about the Leadership Development Academy, use this link.
