With tax season upon us, many of our members are busy working with clients to finalize tax returns. Those of us who don’t prepare tax returns are certainly grateful for those that do.
With tax season coming to an end, I’d like to remind our members that continuing education is one of the most significant benefits that the Dallas CPA Society offers its members. In that regard, our biggest CPE event of the year is just around the corner. On May 4, 2012, we will offer our annual all-day CPE event,
Convergence 2012, at a low cost of only $35.00 per person. This will include 8 hours of CPE with lunch and parking provided.
Each year, this event offers world class speakers on both a national and local level and continues to grow in size and popularity as reflected in the increasing quality of speakers and growing number of participants. We are pleased to have U.S. Senator John Cornyn as our featured lunch speaker this year. We are also honored to have several prominent members of the Texas Legislature participating on a panel that will discuss tax and fiscal issues confronting the state as we approach the next legislative session. These Legislators include the Hon. Senator Florence Shapiro, Chair of the Senate Education Committee, Hon. Representative Dan Branch, Chair of the House Higher Education Committee, Hon. Representative Harvey Hilderbran, Chair of the House Ways and Means Committee, Hon. Representative John Otto, Vice Chair of the House Ways and Means Committee, and Hon. Representative Jim Pitts, Chair of the House Appropriations Committee.
Convergence 2012 will offer 43 different presentations in six different tracks covering the areas of Accounting and Auditing, Estate Tax, Nonprofit Entities, State Tax, Business and Industry (Strategy), Federal Tax and Technology. The presentations in each of these categories are provided by persons that the Planning Committee has carefully identified as quality speakers who are also recognized leaders in their respective fields. Last year, over 1,100 professionals attended and an even larger turnout is expected this year. Seating is limited, so please be sure to reserve your place by registering soon. You can
register now.
The first Business and Industry CPE luncheon was held on Tuesday, March 27, 2012, with a panel presentation focusing on internal control standards. Approximately 60 professionals attended. The B&I Committee has already begun planning the next CPE luncheon, which is tentatively set for mid-July.
I would like to once again thank everyone who helps make our continuing education program one of the most successful and affordable in the country. I hope that you will join me on May 4 at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas to take advantage of this great benefit by attending Convergence 2012.
