Benefits of Membership

DCPAS Membership Yields both Long-Term and Immediate Benefits
Over the years, I have met scores of members who have benefited in many ways from belonging to the Dallas CPA Society. One of the most valuable benefits available to all members is the opportunity to develop a broad and deep network of fellow CPAs. In my experience, this network has proven to be an unparalleled business and professional resource, not to mention a source of camaraderie and friendship. I would encourage all members to take every opportunity to build their own network of relationships in the Society. Over the long term, I am confident the investment of your time and energy will yield tremendous benefit.
Members Receive CPE at No Additional Cost
Among the more immediate benefits available to members is the seventeen hours of free CPE offered by the Society in the 2009–2010 fiscal year. Dubbed the “Member Appreciation Series”, we kicked off the year’s free CPE in August with a one hour presentation at the Marriot Quorum in Addison. This fall, we will offer two additional four-hour sessions. The series capstone event, to be held in May, is our annual free CPE day, a multi-track, 8-credit-hour seminar. If you have never attended free CPE day, you’ve missed a great opportunity. I am very proud of the lineup of speakers and topics that the Society has offered over the years, and we intend to continue this tradition of excellence this year.
Plans are being made now, so watch your email for notification of dates, times and locations. As always, registration will be limited to the facility’s capacity, and will be on a first come, first serve basis. I encourage you to take advantage of this valuable member benefit, and I look forward to seeing you there.

Scholarship Committee News
As has been done for a number of years, the Dallas CPA Society again awarded scholarships to several bright and deserving students attending colleges and universities in the Chapter’s geographic area. The students (there are six this year) are either graduate accounting students or seniors majoring in accounting at one of the following schools: University of Texas at Dallas, University of Texas at Arlington, Southern Methodist University, University of North Texas, and Texas A&M – Commerce. The recipients are chosen by the Scholarship committee based on an extensive application that is submitted and due diligence that is subsequently performed by the committee members.
