Happy New Year!

 2010 was again a very busy year for the 6,500+ members of the Dallas Chapter of CPAs. Over 800 members and sponsors attended Free CPE Day; the two sessions of the four-hour Free CPE Series were well attended; the Chapter co-sponsored the Best CFO of the Year award luncheon with the Dallas Business Journal; the Dallas CPA Political Action Committee was very diligent; and the Chapter awarded scholarships to five outstanding accounting students from the D/FW area. Several member volunteers conducted the annual Tax Hotline with the Dallas Morning News and many gave back to the community by donating their time and energy to charity events such as Love For Kids and Race for the Cure, and acting as volunteers, directors and advisors to innumerable non-profit organizations in the Metroplex.
With a productive 2010 now behind us, we look forward to a New Year, new initiatives and new challenges. The DCPAS staff is currently preparing for the Annual Meeting to be held at Cityplace Conference Center on January 18th at 5:30pm, kicking off the many entertaining and informative programs planned for 2011. On January 25th and 26th, a group of members will attend the TSCPA Mid-Year Board Meeting in Austin, making contact with state legislators to make Dallas CPA positions on issues known. A free, four-hour continuing education session is planned for February and the eight-hour Free CPE Day is scheduled for May 26th at the Hilton Anatole. The Chapter will also be a founder and co-sponsor of DCEO Magazine’s Financial Executives Awards in May. Regarding our individual practices, our elected officials in Washington, Austin and locally continue to provide projects for CPAs to address. The recently passed healthcare law, the re-adoption of the federal tax laws, and the Texas franchise tax will all undergo examination in the coming year, offering a wealth of challenge as our profession copes with the many intricacies buried in the details...

18th Annual Hotline Answers Public’s Tax Questions
The dreaded April 15 deadline sends many people into a panic and in search of a good CPA. You can help relieve those fears, answer some questions and receive recognition all at the same time by participating in the Dallas CPA Society’s 18th Annual Tax Hotline, coordinated in conjunction with the Dallas Morning News. The Hotline will be Sunday, February 13, 2011, from 11:30am-4:00pm at the Dallas Morning News, 508 Young Street.

Another Successful Coat Drive!
Thanks to the many who contributed to the annual Coat Drive for the Love for Kids, Inc. Charity. The coats were distributed at the Love for Kids Christmas Party at Circle R Ranch on Saturday, December 11. These are some of the neediest children in the metroplex, and you responded to that need.

We appreciate so much the time and spirit Dallas CPA Society volunteers contributed by toy sorting, working the games and playground in the carnival area, and making sure these children had a good time. Many thanks, and we hope your holiday was as bright as the smiles on the children’s faces – which you helped produce!
